Oyster Girl Oysters
Saint Michaels, MD
After 10 years of growing oysters as a hobby, we have grown to a commercial operation. We now hold two state-issued aquaculture leases covering 3.6 acres of prime water in the Harris Creek, MD sanctuary. Our aim is to grow large, exceptionally tasty, and fun-to-eat oysters. We do that by growing our oysters in floating surface containers which provide our oysters with plenty of food and a protected environment.
About our Oysters
Oyster Girl oysters are a delicious and healthy choice for seafood lovers. One of the biggest advantages of our oysters is their size. They are larger than the typical oyster, which means you get more meat and flavor in every bite. Additionally, our oysters are grown in very clean water, which means they are free from pollutants and contaminants that might be found in other types of seafood.
Another benefit of Oyster Girl oysters is that they are grown on the surface, rather than on the bottom. This allows them to filter water with more nutrients, which results in a sweeter taste. Additionally, because they are grown on the surface, they have less grit or dirt and they are less likely to be damaged by bottom-dwelling creatures.
Our name and artwork also help differentiate our oysters. The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum and the Chesapeake Landing Restaurant, both in Saint Michaels, Maryland have extensive oyster can collections. We studied the artwork and names on those cans. Most are named for the local waters and all have simple artwork. We use two impressionist paintings- “The Oyster Girl” by Francis Wheatley (1747-1801) and "The Oyster Girl" by Karl Gussow (1843-1907). Both present a neatly dressed server with shucked oysters. The artwork was chosen to denote classic quality and attention to detail and frankly to be memorable. So far we appear to have a highly unique logo. Also, be sure to check out our theme song on our links page. We are the only oyster farm we know of that has a theme song.
In summary, Oyster Girl oysters are a great choice for seafood lovers looking for a delicious, healthy, and sustainable option. They are bigger and cleaner than typical oysters and are grown on the surface which results in a sweeter taste. It is a perfect choice for oyster lovers who are looking for a premium oyster experience.
